Walk in the park, around 1850-1860
Folded fan, double leaf in gouache painted skin, in the taste of the Gimbel brothers, of an elegant assembly enjoying the freshness of a park before boarding for a walk. Reversal decorated with golden garlands framing love stories that display the number "MCE" under the royal crown of the recipient. It could be Marie-Christine, queen and then regent of Spain (1806-1878), a rich ivory frame* pierced, sculpted and engraved with love and gallant couples. On the plumes, the fidelity dog and two doves. At the top, a couple is crowned by love. H.t. 28.8 cm-H.f. 12.3 cm (very good condition)
NB: S. Blondel writes about the Gimbel brothers: "It is to the fertility of their brush that we can attribute, in part, the resurrection of the ancient fan (...). The sheets made by these two artists are rarely signed. S. Blondel, Histoire des éventails (...), 1875, p. 180 We thank Mr. Cyril Boulay for the information he provided us regarding the possible recipient of this fan.
