Two-piece walnut cabinet with four doors and two drawers in - Lot 29
Two-piece walnut cabinet with four doors and two drawers in the waistband. On the upper jambs, two female terms emerge from a sheath with garlands of fruit. The lower jambs continue the line with leafy sheaths. In the middle section, two sheathed frames conceal a lock cover that slides into two grooves; flat arabesque decoration and curly cabbage on the leaf panels; sides with protruding panels. Lyon, late 16th century H. 176.5 cm - W. 146 cm - D. 57.5 cm (minor wear and restoration) Provenance: Former Edouard Bresset collection This large two-piece, referenced in Edith Mannoni's book on Lyonnais furniture, offers all the characteristics of Lyonnais Renaissance production: strong geometrisation and structuring by interlocking rectangles, flat arabesques in low relief, very round moldings and sheathed terms with feminine forms that are also soft and fleshy. Biography: E. Mannoni, Mobilier Lyonnais, Massin, Paris, 1995, pp16-17
