Espagne, école sévillane, première moitié du XVIIe siècle
Child Jesus blessing in carved and polychromed wood. Standing, leaning on his left leg, with a chubby body, the Child has a hairstyle with curly hair and a tassel on the top of the head. Height: 65.5 cm (restorations and polychromy repairs) Juan Martinez Montanes (1568-1649) and Juan de Mesa y Velasco (1583-1627) were two great representatives of the Sevillian school of the early 17th century and both sculpted characteristic Child Jesus blessings, particularly with their hair, the strands of which form a tassel on the top of the forehead. The Museum of Fine Arts in Córdoba has a Child with the same hairstyle.
