Guard plate of the Properties of Mr Honoré de Luynes. Oval, engraved with the HAL Monogram. Honoré Théodoric d'Albert de Luynes, 8th Duke of Luynes, born on 15 December 1802 in Paris where he died on 14 December 1867, is an archaeologist, bibliophile and French numismatist. He was elected a free member of the Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres in 1830 and knight of the Legion of Honour. In 1835, he founded the journal Annales de l'Institut archéologique. In December 1862, he donated 6,925 antique coins to the Cabinet.
