Premier peintre du roi George IV de Grande-Bretagne. Un ensemble de 2 lettres autographes dont une signée Lawrence adressée au vicomte Alcide de Beauchesne le 16 octobre 1825, Paris, 3 pages, in-2°, pliures et mouillures mais bon état; la seconde adressée au vicomte de la Rochefoucauld le 16 novembre ( ?), Paris, 1 page, in-8°, pliures mais bon état. On y joint l'enveloppe d'envoi au vicomte de Beauchesne comportant des traces de cachet de cire rouge, ainsi qu'une gravure représentant Lawrence par J. Thomson. «I have to acknowledge the honor of your letter, acquainting me that His most Christian Majesty has deigned to reward the execution of my imperfect talent, by the donation of some articles from the Royal Manufacturing of Sevres; so long celebrated in Europe, and recently advanced to perfection, under the enlightened auspices of king Charles the Tenth. I fear that all attempt to express my gratitude for this unmerited distinction, must by wholly unequal to the occasion. Yet I must not forgot, that I owe this honor to his Majesty gracious sense of the affection of the King of England, although his humane courtesy has included so humble and individual as myself in the benefit of that feching, and bestowed the flattering recognition of English Art, on the person who so inadequately represent it. I interest Your Lordship to throw me at the feet of his most Christian Majesty in sincere...for this...for bounty, and with that profound respect and devotion of the heart, with which his excelled goodness has so indelibly impressed me!
