Jennens and Bettridge, Côte d'Azur landscapes, circa 1850Pair of hand-made papier-mâché screens, turned wooden handles. A screen painted with lake landscapes including Chillon Castle on the shores of Lake Geneva in Switzerland, and the second on the island of Isola Bella, one of the Borromean Islands, on Lake Maggiore in Italy, signed on the lower left side "Jennens and Bettridge". 45 cm NB: Aaron Jennens and John Bettridge are artists from the first half of the 19th century (1815-1864), well known for their works in papier mâché. They started in London before opening shops in Paris and New York where they offered boxes, trays, hand screens and small papier-mâché furniture.
