The triumph of Artemisia and Mausole, around 1700 Folded fan, a leather leaf painted in bright colours with the triumph of the queen of Halicarnassus, Artemisia, on a chariot pulled by two elephants. It is preceded by Mausole who introduces it to his soldiers. A lush composition on the reverse, mixing many colourful flowers and an exotic bird. Ivory* frame pierced, engraved with flowers and animals, and enhanced with shells and corals. H.t. 25.9 cm/ H.f. 12.5 cm (leaf wear)NB: rare subject on the fan, similar to the work of Antoine Caron (1521-1599), "Triumph of Artemisia and Mausole", (Paris, Louvre Museum).
