Symbols of happiness, China, 19th century Folded fan, double sheet of paper very finely painted with gouache of 40 women and children in pavilions opening onto gardens. On the reverse: three cartels decorated with characters with ivory heads* brought back, and wearing silk clothes enhanced with gouache. Between these subjects, different Chinese symbols of prosperity and happiness: alternating strands of black lacquered bamboo frame with gold, pink and silver decoration; filigree metal gilded and enamelled in green, blue and purple; sandalwood; white mother-of-pearl; brown shell**; and natural ivory* or red stained. H.t. 29 cm- H.f. 11,7 cm (good condition)
