ALexandre BLOCH (1860-1919)
The Saint-Mandé train accident, July 26, 1891. The Saint-Mandé railway accident took place on Sunday 26 July 1891 in the station of this neighbouring commune of Paris, then located in the Seine department, on the so-called Vincennes line operated by the Compagnie des chemins de fer de l'Est. It struck people's minds both because it had occurred when a crowd in their Sunday clothes returned to the capital after a day of relaxation in a festive atmosphere, and because its heavy toll made it one of the most serious accidents since the origins of the railways in France (more than 50 dead and 200 injured)
