Telemachus and Calypso, France, circa 1750-1760 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, painted in gouache of young Telemachus recounting his epic to Calypso. Mentor reminds him that he must leave by pointing to a ship. The reverse is painted with a woman on an island, surrounded by flowers reminiscent of Indian flowers. Cut-out, engraved, burgundy and gilded blond tortoiseshell mount decorated with gallant couples. Engraved, silvered and gilded white mother-of-pearl plumes. Height 28 cm-H.f. 13 cm (cuts, wear, restorations) In a tan leather-covered box bearing the address of Maison Duvelleroy in Paris.
