16. Clérisse, Alexandre (b. 1980) City of... - Lot 16 - Coutau-Bégarie
16. Clérisse, Alexandre (b. 1980) City of the future, excerpt from "Souvenirs de l'empire de l'atome" (Dargaud, 2013, based on a scenario by Thierry Smolderen) India ink on paper, 58.7 cm x 41.7 cm Born on October 30, 1980 in Aurillac, Alexandre Clérisse spent his childhood in Saint-Cère, in the Lot region, where he graduated from high school in 1999. Encouraged by Michel Lablanquie (creator of Editions Rackam), he set up the music and comics collective La Pie lotoise, where he experimented with fanzines and self-publishing. In 2000, he began a first year in art history at the Université du Mirail in Toulouse, but eventually decided to return to Aurillac to study for a BTS in visual communications (graphic design, publishing...). He graduated in 2002. He then turned his attention to computer graphics and children's illustration. This was followed by a period of varied work - posters, models and illustrations - for a number of civic organizations, cultural associations, festivals, local councils and communications agencies. But in 2003, he turned back to comics and enrolled at the École Européenne Supérieure de l'Image in Angoulême. There, he met Tony Neveux and François Henninger, with whom he designed the collective magazine 'Le Mouchoir' (folding comics). The following year, together with Tony Neveux and Violaine Cousty, he designed the layout and communications for the exhibition "Au fil du Nil", named after the annual ÉESI magazine. In 2005, he received his DNAP in comics with honors. Still with the Fil du Nil team, he designed the layout for the 33rd Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2006. Some of his work began to appear in the local and national press, and in magazines such as 'Choco Creed' and 'Toboggan'... At the same time, he met David Prudhomme, one of his favorite authors, who asked him to color "La Farce de maître Pathelin" (Éditions de l'an 2, 2006). Also in 2006, he illustrated "Le Fruit défendu" (L'Arbre vengeur), by Theodore Francos Powys. In 2007, he published "Jazz Club" (Dargaud) as a solo artist (re-mastered in 2022 under the title "Les déboires de Norman Bold, disparition au Jazz Club") and began a series of fruitful collaborations. In 2009, he signed "Trompe la mort" (Dargaud) and joined a new studio, Le Gratin, also in Angoulême. The following year saw the publication of "L'École des lutins" (Glénat, 2010), a children's book he produced four-handed with Mylène Rigaudie. 2013 saw the publication of "Souvenirs de l'empire de l'Atome" (Dargaud), a long-running work based on a screenplay by Thierry Smolderen. The collaboration between the two men doesn't stop there, with the 2015 release of "L'Été diabolik". And in 2019, they meet again for a third time, this time focusing on the 1980s with "Une année sans Cthulhu" (Dargaud). At the same time, "Alfred, Quentin & Pedro sont sur un plateau" (Dargaud, 2019), a "search and find" game revolving around the universe of the greatest directors: Hitchcock, Almodovar, Tarantino, etc., is reissued to the delight of cinephiles aged 7 to 107! In 2022, he devotes himself to a human and historical adventure celebrating comics, "Feuilles Volantes" Text © Dargaud
