IACOVLEFF Alexandre Evguenievitch (1887-1938).
Portrait of Violet Henson putting on lipstick. Graphite drawing with charcoal and pastel highlights on paper signed by the artist in Latin letters lower left and dated 1926. Slight foxing and small folds. H. 17.5 cm - L. 9.5 cm. This drawing, given by Alexandre Iacovleff to Violet Henson, bears witness to their complicity. The painter always kept a black notebook (18x10 cm) with him, a sketchbook on which he took notes, drew and made sketches, sometimes enhanced with pastel or watercolor. These sketchbooks are an exceptional record of his travels, daily life, encounters and artistic career. Sometimes, out of friendship for his model, he would not hesitate to offer her pages from his precious sketchbooks. A certificate of authenticity from Madame Caroline de La Baume, expert on the work of Alexandre Iacovleff and member of the Chambre Européenne des Experts d'Arts, will be given to the buyer. This lot will be included in the catalog raisonné of Alexandre Iacovleff that she is currently preparing. Reference: See above a red chalk portrait by the same artist of Violet Henson.
