Van Garden, Harlequin and the Pierrots, circa 1910- 1920 Balloon-shaped fan, the black gauze leaf painted with a masked Harlequin in a moonlit village. He spies Pierrots, gathered around a table, starting dinner or pouring wine into glasses. Signed on the right by the painter "Van Garden". These iconic fan scenes were advertised in "Le Gaulois" newspaper in 1913: "Examine also these beautifully painted Pierrot scenes by Van Garden, on black gauze, with night effect". Mute reverse. Brown-tinted goldfish mother-of-pearl mounting, engraved and gilded. H.t. 25.5 cm-W.H. 16.3 cm (wear, restorations)
