Mechanical animations, circa 1780 - Lot 94
Mechanical animations, circa 1780 Folded fan, with system, the silk sheet decorated with small painted cartels of trophies, a dressing table and a comedy mask, framing a love sitting on a barrel raising his glass. Opposite him, a woman admires her reflection in a mirror. Near them, a cooper is busy. The reverse features the same decoration as the front, with a red line. Mounted in engraved, silvered and gilded pierced ivory, decorated with altars of Love. The plumes are enriched with medallions featuring mechanical animation. A small push-button on the side brings to life the playlets depicted, including a cooper raising his arm to finish a barrel, and a woman raising her arm to look at herself in a mirror. The miniature mechanisms are housed in the thickness of the plume. They are set in motion by a small knob on the outer edge of the medallion, which can be turned in either direction. Read: "Le siècle d'or de l'éventail, du Roi-Soleil à Marie-Antoinette", Paris, Faton, 2013, p. 157-158. H.t. 27.5 cm-H.f. 13 cm (wear, restorations)
