Joseph and his brothers, circa 1750 Folded fan, the leaf in skin, mounted in English style, and painted with gouache of Joseph's brothers selling him to Putiphar, Pharaoh's chief guard. Putiphar, Pharaoh's chief of guards. Country scenes on each side. Reverse painted with a hunter shouldering his rifle. Mounted in beveled ivory, engraved and enhanced in symmetrical colors with a seated woman, baskets of flowers and birds. The plume is carved with a Harlequin wearing pants decorated with rhombuses.
