Car umbrella, France, circa 1910 Folding parasol, tilting into a screen, green silk taffeta cover with faille selvedge, "vera seta" embroidered on the border. Long, green-tinted bamboo handle. Tilting system above the screen spring. Marquise" parasols, very much in vogue during the Second Empire, came back into fashion at the beginning of the 20th century. Because they had a very short handle, tilted to form a screen and folded back at will, they were used in motorcars. This "old-fashioned parasol is the only one that can be used for automobiles" according to La mode illustrée in 1907 (n°18), a comment repeated by Femina in 1914. Total length 70 cm Eight round black steel ribs, 34 cm (restoration).
