"Riflard", France, circa 1830 Umbrella, called "riflard" in reference to the play "La petite ville" performed in Paris in 1801, in which the main character, named Riflard, entered the stage with a huge umbrella under his arm. Red cotton cover. Wooden pole, brass runner and tip, base decorated with flowers. Small horn handle. Total length 100 cm Eight strands of whale baleen, 79 cm Weight 1106 gr (good condition, small hole) All umbrellas and parasols containing ivory, whale baleen or rhinoceros horn benefit from an intra-Community certificate, permit K, allowing their circulation in Europe.
