Parasol, Europe, circa 1820-1830 Parasol, formerly known as a "pagoda", with green silk cover and ivory-colored brocaded heel. To keep up with fashion, this parasol was modified in the 1830s, by lengthening the ribs with metal strands. Turned wooden handle with curved grip. Copper pole and tap-à-terre. Total length 94 cm Eight strands of whale baleen, 51 cm Weight 392 gr (wear and tear) All umbrellas and parasols containing ivory, whale baleen or rhinoceros horn benefit from an intra-Community certificate, permit K, allowing their circulation in Europe.
