P., 1837, full mauve silk velvet, gilded metal corners, gilded fleurons on the spandrels of the first cover, gilded armorial plate in the center of the first cover, gilded clasp, gilded edges. Lithographed vignettes, borders by T. de Jolimont. A wedding gift for Hilaire Bernigaud de Chardonnet de Granges, known as the Comte de Chardonnet, born in 1839, polytechnician, lord of Le Vernay (Montalieu, Isère) and Vitreux (Pagney, Jura), married in Lyon in 1866 to Marie-Antoinette-Camille de Ruolz-Montchal, born in 1846. Comte de Chardonnet invented the vegetable silk that bears his name. Missing fleurons and spine title, one plate detached. Beautifully presented.
