Plate of 4 buttons of Patrice de Mac Mahon,... - Lot 94 - Coutau-Bégarie
Plate of 4 buttons of Patrice de Mac Mahon, comte de Mac Mahon, 1er duc de Magenta, maréchal de France (1808-1893), French soldier and statesman, President of the Republic from May 24, 1873 to January 30, 1879. Made Marshal of France and Duke of Magenta by Napoleon III (1859). In 1854, he married Élisabeth de La Croix de Castries (1834-1900). The very rare first button, engraved with the marshal's cipher, emblem and motto, appears to be a cape button of the marshal himself [I-624]. It is accompanied by the wedding ring button [I-626] in a pair and the generic button worn during the presidency [I-625].
