Embroidered handkerchief at the Panthéon,... - Lot 280 - Coutau-Bégarie
Embroidered handkerchief at the Panthéon, 1867. Hand-stitched linen embroidered in a corner of the Panthéon, a Parisian monument in the Latin Quarter, a church built in the 18th century and today a place of remembrance where great figures from French history have been buried since the French Revolution. Finely embroidered in plumetis and sand stitch, amidst a flight of foliage and tulips, hydrangeas and ears of wheat, the pantheon is illuminated by long cartouches adorned with fine Alençon-style needlework, embroidered with the monogram AL and 2 Juillet 1867 on the underside (good condition, very minor stretching to the linen).
