TRAVEL ICON BELONGING TO PRINCESS IRINA YOUSSOUPOFF (1895-1970). By SMIRNOFF, Moscow, Russia, 1899-1908. Tempera on metal, preserved in a vermeil frame decorated with cloisonné polychrome enamel motifs of Art Nouveau inspiration, surmounted by a vermeil cross. Two doors decorated with protective archangels surmounting a cross open onto a Christ on a throne blessing, flanked on the left by Saint Isidore de Yourieff and on the right by Saint Rev. Antony de Petchory. Slight age wear, but overall good condition. Title hallmark: 84, Moscow, 1899-1908. Goldsmith's hallmark: Dimitri Smirnoff, active from 1905 to 1917. Closed: H.: 14 cm - L.: 7.5 cm. Open: H.: 14 cm - W.: 14.5 cm. Provenance: former collection of Princess Irina Youssoupoff, née Princess Irina Alexandrovna of Russia (1895-1970). Subsequently offered to Victor Contreras (1941-2023), a young Beaux-Arts student and protégé of Prince Felix Youssoupoff, who regarded him as a son and with whom he lived for several years. Then sold in Paris on November 4, 2016, at Coutau-Bégarie, under no. 108.
