Dogs Pair of brown patina bronze subjects mounted on white marble pedestals adorned with chased and gilded bronze plaques decorated with putti playing in nudes bordered by ovum friezes. They stand on bronze runners. Height: 36 cm (with base) - Width: 23 cm - Depth: 16.5 cm This model is often presented as a "dog" andirons. of which few examples are known, can be compared with a pair made by Philippe Caffieri, illustrated in E. S. Eriksen, Early Neoclassicims in France, 1974, pl. 223 with a dog and cat. A similar pair of andirons was sold at Christie's New York, November 12, 1981, lot 34.
