Desk or travel clock in mahogany and mahogany veneer, rectangular in shape, topped by a brass handle on a step, the movement framed by pearl friezes and uprights adorned with scrapers and topped by gilded brass lion's heads. The enamel dial features Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, with day indication. (Wire movement, one hand missing). Height : 35 cm - Width : 24.5 cm - Depth : 14 cm Circa 1780/90. Attributed to David ROENTGEN This clock belongs to a group of cases attributed to David Roentgen (1743-1807). There are several similar clocks with mechanisms signed by Peter Kinzing in Neuwied. Peter Kinzing (1745 - 1816) worked with master cabinetmaker David Roentgen, to whom he supplied mechanisms for clocks and furniture. A supplier to the French court, he was awarded the title of Horloger to Queen Marie Antoinette. A clock of similar construction can be found in Karl Lagerfeld's collection. Sotheby's, April 29, 2000.
