The Flora of Marly Terracotta representing the goddess of flowers, half-naked, wearing a crown of flowers, a rose blooming at her feet. Signed Fremin on the back of the terrace. First half of the 19th century. H. 68.5 cm. The marble model was commissioned by the Direction des Bâtiments du Roi in 1706 The marble model was commissioned by the Direction des Bâtiments du Roi in 1706 to decorate the Cascade Champêtre in the Park of the Château de Marly, built in 1700 in the Bosquet du Levant. René Frémin delivered his Flore in 1709, transferred in 1801 to Malmaison to be displayed on the façade of the castle before entering the Louvre Museum in 1877. Louvre in 1877. This work illustrates the movement that appeared in sculpture at the beginning of the 18th century. Cheerfulness and joy are fully displayed and are present in other works by René Frémin.
