Jean RAON (1630 - 1707)
Spring and Summer Pair of busts in white marble. H. 27 cm Louis XIV period, around 1700. Red silk velvet bases. Son of a Parisian master mason, Jean Raon was pensioned by the King during his stay in Rome, from 1666 to 1669. Back in France, he entered the service of the King's Buildings, under the aegis of Charles Le Brun, and participated in all the great royal building sites, whether in Versailles, Marly, Meudon or the church of the Invalides. He was admitted to the Royal Academy of Painting and Sculpture in 1672. Bibliography: F.
