Autograph letter signed "Marie" addressed to her niece the Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna of Russia (1875-1960), Paris, May 14, 1912, 4 pages, in-8°, text in English on headed paper with the Grand Duchess's cipher, edged in black.

Translation: "You must already know from the charming Madame de Stockel what I'm about to tell you, for yesterday I spoke to her about it. The young Duc de Montpensier, my nephew, has heard of your pretty daughter and is very anxious to make her acquaintance. He came to see me to talk about it, and asked me to find out if the idea would be well received by you and Sandro. He's a nice-looking young man, 28 years old, in excellent health, intelligent and wealthy, just the sort of husband one would want for one's daughter, according to my ideas. He's going to Stockholm in June and could come and stay with me in (...) and from there make visits "along the coast". Now please think it over and give me an answer as long as I'm here until the last days of our May, as I'm not going to Moscow not feeling really able to bear all this "fatigue".
