MARIA FEODOROVNA, Empress of Russia, born Princess Dagmar of Denmark (1847-1924). Rare and beautiful set of 17 small old photographs B&W, mounted on a cardboard board, taken by Countess Zénaïde Mengden (1878-1950), maid of honor to Empress Maria Feodorovna. Representing members of the Russian imperial family under house arrest at Dulber Palace, the summer residence of Grand Duke Peter Nicolaievicth of Russia in the Crimea. They were the only members of the imperial family to narrowly escape the Bolsheviks, managing to escape in April 1919 aboard the battleship HMS Marlborough, sent by King George V of Great Britain at the urging of his mother, Queen Alexandra, the Tsar's sister. Alexandra, sister of Tsarina Maria Feodorovna. In these rare shots, which have never been published, you can see the Dulber Palace Dulber Palace, the view from the palace to the sea, the inner courtyard of the palace, members of the imperial family gathered in the inner courtyard of the palace, including Empress Maria Feodorovna, Grand Dukes Nicholas and Peter Nikolayevich, Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich, the sons of Grand Duke Alexander Mikhailovich: Princes Theodore, Nikita, Andre, Dimitri, Rostislav and Vasili Alexandrovich, Grand Duchesses Anastasia and Militza, the latter's children, Prince Roman and his sisters Nadjeda and Marina, etc. Vintage silver print, circa 1918-1919.
