MARIE-ANTOINETTE, Queen of France (1755-1793). Small gilded metal coat of arms with repoussé decoration representing the coats of arms of the Royal House of France and the Imperial House of Austria. Imperial House of Austria, preserved in an antique blackened wood frame. Weathered, but overall good condition. Sight: H.: 5.5 cm - W.: 5.5 cm. Frame: H.: 12.5 cm - W.: 12 cm. Enclosed is a printed facsimile of a letter signed "Marie Antoinette" addressed on August 30, 1786, to Marshal de Castries (1715-1787), Secretary of State for the Navy, in-4°, 1 page. Interesting historical document signifying the Prince de Soubise's disgrace. Marshal Prince de Soubise (1715- 1787), former Minister of State, had to step down after the affair involving the Queen's necklace, in which his relative, Cardinal de Rohan, had been seriously compromised. Rohan, had been seriously compromised. "I am annoyed, Mrs le maréchal, that you did not ask to see me yesterday, in spite of the little time I had to myself, I would always have found some to see you, and to tell you that I have no answer to make Mr de Soubise he has long enough forgotten, he and his people what they owed me, for me not to take any more care of them.
