PAIR OF SENIOR OFFICER'S EPAULETS. In stamped and gilt brass, with twisted gilt metal fringe, bears a round gilt metal plate engraved with the inscription: Epaulettes du Général Bon Ritay (1761-1819). Missing, as is. Italy, mid-19th century. History: Jean-Marie Ritay was an officer during the Revolution, then Brigadier General under the First Empire. He was named a baron by Emperor Napoleon I on October 26, 1808.
