Only volume (of 43) of the national edition of Victor Hugo's works (Roman. B), illustrated with an etched frontispiece, 4 plates and headbands. With a folded facsimile letter. A fine nominative copy, one of the top 50 on japon (n° 40), with the plates printed in 3 states and the headbands printed in 2 states, printed for Duke Nicolas de Leuchtenberg (1843- 1891), grandson of Eugène de Beauharnais and Tsar Nicolas I, with his coat of arms gilded on the first cover and his crowned cipher gilded on the second cover. Binding very slightly rubbed. One serpente missing.
