Notes in pencil by Juliette Récamier, relating to a visit to a hospice run by Augustinian ladies, a quatrain inspired by this visit and accounts. In ink, by another hand, a copy of a quatrain, "vers impromptus du chevalier de Boufflers" in homage to Juliette Récamier. -HAMELIN, Fortunée dite Madame (1776-1851), French woman of letters and salonnière. L.A.S. S.l., "Samedi 23 J. 1841 ". Beautiful letter from Madame Hamelin dedicated to her friend Chateaubriand: "[...] You think as I do, I'm sure, that the interest of an autograph lies more in the movement of style, in the character of the character, than in the quantity and quality of the writing? This intimate note from Mr de Chateaubriand will therefore please you. It's all him, and from him, since the July Revolution, which is to say, alas, that this beautiful genius was devouring himself with troubles under the weight of regrets, bitterness and melancholy. The Baroness complains about her widowhood and asks Madame Récamier if she will receive her and "Laurette": Laure Junot d'Abrantès. It was the Baroness de Bourgoing who had welcomed Madame Récamier into her home at Abbaye-aux-Bois and introduced her to Chateaubriand. -ANCELOT, Virginie (1792-1875), French woman of letters, painter and salonnière. L.A.S. about Mme. Récamier. S.l.n.d. 1 p. ¼ in-8°. Embossed cypher. Severe letter against Mme Récamier. The latter, shocked by verses by M. Ancelot, demanded the sacrifice of this text as a condition for maintaining their friendship. "[...] moreover she seemed shocked that I wanted to put her in the painting which represents an evening when she was in rivalry". Ancelot is referring to her painting exhibited at the 1828 Salon, entitled "Une lecture de M. Ancelot", in which she depicted her husband in a salon surrounded by the literati of the day. "[...] I have never been to the Abbaye aux Bois except out of a real feeling of affection for her [...]. I love Mme Récamier very much, I used to go for her and I find her unfair to me [...]". "Yesterday I dined at Madame Récamier's and in the evening I spoke of you, Monsieur. She is one of the chosen readers who have all the beauties of Luis de Souza. The Countess addresses a newspaper editor and sends him a copy of the new work by her friend Countess Eugene d'Hautefeuille (1786-1861). She mentions the critic Alida de Salvignac (1790-1847) and promises her a short story. -FLAUGERGUES, Pauline de (1799- 1878), French poetess. L.A.S. Aulnay, "Thursday". 2 pp. ½ in-8°. Mourning paper. About the talks between Balzac and Henri de Latouche, "the two dreamers", "it was because they saw each other a lot that they hardly wrote to each other".
