Pair of large medallions in painted polychrome enamel on copper with red background and gold highlights, representing the profiles of Renaud and Armide after a watercolor by Paul Soyer; red translucent counter-enamel. Paris, Paul Soyer (1832-1903), circa 1880 D. 15.2 cm In a silver frame. Paul Soyer, the father of a dynasty of enamellers with a technique that has never been equaled, exhibited his art enamels for furnishings, bronze and jewelry at the 1875-1892 salons. He received a gold medal at the 1878 Universal Exhibition and collaborated with Claudius Popelin, Charles Duron and Beaugrand, among others.
