Portrait of Xavier, Count of Vignet (1780-1844) Oil on canvas 39 x 31.5 cm. On the back, entirely painted: a fragment of a Virgin, as well as a drawing of a gentleman, and an annotation, in black paint: "Brother-in-law of Lamartine / Mr de Vigne / ambassador in Turin 1833 / godfather of Amé-Louis / de Cocatrix". On the back, on the frame, label and handwritten annotations, dating from the 20th century: "This portrait will go to Jacques / de Cocatrix son of Maurice". Presented in a beautiful gilded and carved wooden frame from the early 19th century. Born in the union of two very honorable families of the duchy of Savoy, the Vignet and the Maistre, Xavier was destined to a beautiful destiny in the high administration. Born in Chambéry, where his father and grandfather were members of the Sovereign Senate of Savoy, he owned the castle of La Motte-Servolex, where he received many guests, accompanied by his wife Césarine de Lamartine (1799-1823), sister of the famous poet. Exiled in Val d'Aoste during the French occupation, he became a senator at the restoration, in 1816, and was appointed coordinator of the administrative reorganization of the communes of the former department of Léman. In 1831, King Charles Albert appointed him "first officer at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs", a position he held in Turin until 1835. In 1819, he participated in the creation of the Academy of Sciences, Belles-lettres and Arts of Savoy, of which he was president from 1842 until his death. His brother Louis (1789-1837), also a brilliant statesman, founded the branch of Vignet de Vendeuil, which still exists. Among the descendants and allies of the de Vignet family, there are members of the following families: Alvar de Biaudos de Castéja, d'Avout, Ballot, Barrault, de Beaumont du Repaire, Bertrand, Boisselet, Brisson, de Cazaux, Chauchat, Clar, de Clavière, Debesse, Dressler, Dulière, Emo, Esmez-Deutout, de Garnier des Garets, Gayon, Golliaud de Champroux, Gonzalez de Linares, Grandchamp des Raux, d'Harcourt, d'Huart, Hugon, d'Irumberry de Salaberry, de La Bigne, de La Cropte de Chantérac, de Lambertye, de Launay du Couëdic de Kergoualer, Le Brethon, Leclerc, Lemmens, de Malliard, Maret de Saint-Pierre, Mestrallet, de Mollerat du Jeu, de Montfort Saint Sulpice, Pasquier de Franclieu, Pecqueriaux, Perret du Cray, du Puy, de Reboul, Regnouf de Vains, Rocher, Rogès, Rouzé, de Ruffray, de Saint Chamas, Sébastien, Talvande, de Thoury, de Toytot, de Vasselot de Régné.
