Pair of chased and gilt bronze torches decorated with canals and palmettes. Empire period, circa 1807-1810. H. 25,5 cm. Related works: Claude Galle supplied torches of this model in 1807-1810 for the Château de Fontainebleau (see J.-P. Samoyault, "Pendules et bronzes d'ameublement entrés sous le Premier Empire", p. 172, n°151; "L'Heure, le Feu, la Lumière, les bronzes du mobilier national", p. 87, model 38). The Château de Fontainebleau and the Mobilier National keep similar torches in their collections (inventory number GML-4362-002).
