Religious clock in blackened wood and veneer of red tinted tortoiseshell decorated with ornaments of foliage scrolls, mascaron and fire pots in gilt bronze. The dial with Roman numerals supported by an allegory of Time in gilt bronze. Signed Jacques Hory in Paris. End of the 17th century. Movement changed D. 54 x 35 x 16 cm. Born into a dynasty of Parisian craftsmen active in the early 17th century, Jacques Hory was one of the most important watchmakers in the capital. 1658 he moved to the Faubourg Saint-Germain. In 1675, he was appointed juror of his corporation and received the title of "ordinary watchmaker of the King" from 1673 to 1690. From the 18th century, some clocks bearing the name "Hory", "Horry" or "Hourry", are mentioned in the collections of important European collectors.A.S. the Elector of Cologne in 1764, as well as a second one mentioned in the inventory after the death of the widow of Pierre-Charles Davoust, and a third one was briefly valued in 1758 during the succession of Hercule-Mériadec de Rohan prince de Guémené prince de Montbazon.
