Cabinet in two bodies in oak and fruitwood inlays opening to four doors and two drawers in belt. The upper body is recessed, with a fine molded cornice and a pediment punctuated by three diamond points, the frame and leaves are decorated with inlaid with a central medallion decorated with the letters IS and X surrounding a cross, rich ornamentation of foliage, flowers, pinnacles symbols of the passion, geometric patterns especially on the sides and large flowered vases with carnations, iris and bellflowers on the lower leaves.

On the western border of Germany, French and Dutch influences were important. The French gothic dresser kept its traditional form with renaissance decorations; cabinetmakers made it evolve and they gave birth to the dresser with a recessed upper body (Uberbauschrank) often with inlaid motifs. One of the great representatives of this innovation is the cabinetmaker Melchior von Rheydt (died 1624). His most famous works are the intarsia doors of the Cologne town hall, but also the stalls of the councillors in the Senate hall, completed in 1602. One can also mention a dresser illustrated opposite with the same motifs of inlays on the drawers and the leaves (fig).
