Hexagonal box with wooden core of pyramidal shape, covered w - Lot 57
Hexagonal box with wooden core of pyramidal shape, covered with gilded pastilla decorated with foliage on a background amati in rectangular reserves for the lower part, triangular in the upper part; six-sided pyramidal grip button. Northern Italy, second third of the 15th century. H. 41 cm - L 30 cm (wear and tear) The so-called pastiglia engagement boxes are preserved in the collections of major museums and are mostly from Florence. But they are of round shape. This one borrows the shape of the boxes produced in Venice, notably by the Embriachi workshop, but it is covered not with bone plates but with golden pastiglia with the frames of the reserves in black cleared with a needle to let the golden covering appear. It is therefore a unicum, which uses the Florentine technique for a Venetian form.
