Rare tripod bronze oil lamp base, baluster shaft, molded cup with wide inverted rim, four-sided pyramidal spike. Byzantine art, 6th / 8th century H. 30 cm (oxidation) The oil lamps were either placed on a support like the one presented here, or suspended by chains. A similar model with the lamp is preserved in the Cleveland Museum of Art (inv 1970.45) but also in the Archaeological Museum of Istanbul, (inv 6113M) (fig A and B).
