Portrait formerly considered to represent the banker Jacques Necker (1732-1804) Oil on canvas signed and dated, lower left: G Martin 1787 71,5 x 54 cm Presented in a gilded and carved wood frame from the Louis XV period. Few details are known about this painter of portraits, active in Paris, who seems to have been the son of Guillaume Martin (1689-1749), the inventor of the famous "Martin varnish" and the father of Mademoiselle Jeanne Martin (1774 - 1788), a pastelist.
