Louis XIV on horseback Oil on canvas (original canvas enlarged, restorations) H. 58 cm - L. 82cm Note that in the former collections of the Duc d'Aumale kept at the Château de Chantilly we find on the panel Les actions du Grand Condé, Rocroi 1643, one of the eleven large paintings showing the most valiant military actions of 1640 to 1674 commissioned by Le Grand Condé to the painter Sauveur Le Conte. Louis XIV is represented in the same pose in a blue suit and on his white horse. Sauveur Le Conte (1659-1694) was trained by Van der Meulen and after his death was commissioned to finish his unfinished paintings. He succeeded him as the ordinary painter of the king's conquests at the Royal Manufacture of Gobelins. Provenance: Galerie Voltaire; Paris, October 8, 1973.
