Rare oval covered sugar bowl in soft porcelain, model designated in the archives "sugar bowl of Monsieur le Premier" from a small dessert service delivered for the Countess of Artois at the Palace of Versailles. Its decoration of country taste shows superimposed bands bordered of gold, composed of a broad pale blue net decorated with falls of gold pearls and a semis of flowers. These pieces are noted in the works of the artists of the manufacture, under the name of "blue zone and fleurettes", "small flowers for blue zone" or "small blue zone and fleurettes". Carries in mauve on the reverse the LL interlaced with the letter-date for the year 1784, and the initials of the painter Charles-Nicolas Buteux fils, active in the manufacture from 1763 to 1801. XVIIIth century. Provenance: Marie-Thérèse of Savoy, countess of Artois (1756-1805), in the castle of Versailles. H. 11,2 cm - L. 24 cm Intended for the service of the dessert and described in the register of sales as "blue zone", it was only composed of thirty-six plates at 18 pounds each, eight compotiers, seven ice-cream cups and a tray, two jam trays, two half-bottle buckets, a crenellated bucket, an ice-cream bucket, and two sugar bowls at 54 pounds each. It was bought by the Countess of Artois during the annual exhibitions made in Versailles in December 1784. Only a few pieces dated 1784 are known today: one plate belonged to the former Edouard Chappey collection and is illustrated by Frédéric Masson, "La porcelaine de Sèvres, collection Chappey", Les Arts, 1905, p. 15. Another, or perhaps the same, was shown at Christie's, London, 13 December 1965, lot 91. The crenellated bucket was sold at Pescheteau Badin, Paris, June 24, 2022, lot 137.
