ÉCOLE FRANÇAISE DU XIXE SIÈCLE. D'APRÈS JEAN-AUGUSTE BARRE (1811-1896).
Princess Marie d'Orléans, Duchess of Wurtemberg (1813-1839). Statuette carved in ivory representing the youngest daughter of King Louis-Philippe, holding in one hand a small drawing book and in the other hand a pencil, symbolic allusion to the most artistic of the French princesses, resting on a square base in ebony enhanced by ivory frames. Wear of time, small accidents, but good general condition. H. 29 cm - W. 12 cm - D. 11 cm. Reference : several versions of this work are known, notably in cookie and bronze. Barre was the official sculptor of the Orleans family. It is therefore very likely that this work was offered to a member of the royal family of Orleans.
