ÉCOLE FRANÇAISE DU XIXE SIÈCLE. D'APRÈS LE BARON GÉRARD (177 - Lot 114
ÉCOLE FRANÇAISE DU XIXE SIÈCLE. D'APRÈS LE BARON GÉRARD (1770-1837). Bust portrait of King Louis XVIII (1755-1824), wearing the grand cordon of the Order of the Holy Spirit. Oil on canvas, oval shape, preserved in an old carved and gilded wooden frame of a pearl frieze. Bearing on the reverse the inscription in ink: "Portrait of SM born in 1755 (...) Count of Provence / + in 18 (...)". Good general condition. H. 64,5 cm - L. : 51 cm. Reference : The Palace of Versailles keeps a resumption of the portrait of Louis XVIII of the baron Gérard, of identical dimensions (Canvas; 65 x 54 cm), by Madame Marie-Eléonor Godefroid (1778-1843), which is quite comparable to this portrait (cf. Claire Constans, Musée national du château de Versailles, les peintures, volume I, n°2283, p. 404 - RMN 1995).
