CHINA PLATE WITH ARMORIAL DECORATION FOR THE SWEDISH MARKET - Lot 13
CHINA PLATE WITH ARMORIAL DECORATION FOR THE SWEDISH MARKET (TESSIN). Qianlong period (1736-1795). Decorated in famille rose enamels, of poly-lobed form, with the coat of arms of the Tessin family. Count Carl Gustaf Tessin, in French Charles-Gustave de Tessin (1695-1770), is a Swedish aristocrat and politician. He was superintendent of the buildings and gardens of the king of Sweden and marshal at the assembly of the States of the Kingdom in 1738. He was a zealous champion of the Hat Party and presided over the assembly of the nobility at the Diet of 1738. He advised the French alliance and went himself to conclude a treaty at Versailles (1742) and lived at the court of Louis XV from 1739 to 1742, sent by the king, with the functions of an ambassador without having the title. During his stay in Paris, he built up an important collection of paintings and drawings, including Le Triomphe de Vénus by François Boucher. Faced with financial difficulties, he had to part with a large part of this collection in 1749, which thus became the property of the Swedish Crown. Three small fels. Diameter : 23 cm.
