H.Fr. Wöhrmann in Zutphen, in green half-chagrin with corners, spine ribbed with gilt designs. First edition of one of the most beautiful books on ornithology. Pastor and naturalist, Cornelius Nozeman (1720-1786) undertook the description of all the birds of the Netherlands. This encyclopedia, which was first published in 1770, was continued after the author's death by Maarten Houttuyn (1720-1798) and the printing of the work continued until 1829. The beautiful engraved illustrations are by Christiaan Sepp (1710-1775), Jan Christiaan Sepp (1739-1811), his son, and Jan Sepp (1778-1853), his grandson. The five volumes contain 5 title-frontispices and 249 plates (out of 250) of birds, watercolored. A fine copy. Missing plate 227 (falco buteo). Small restored angular paper loss, pp. 369-370, with damage to the text. Joints slightly rubbed.
