Schœll, bookseller in Paris on the first cover of the first four folders and of the sixth folder, large labels with handwritten title on the other three, ties, entirely untrimmed. First edition of the first 8 issues (out of 11) of volume I (the only one published) of this beautiful work on the plants of Malmaison realized for Joséphine by the botanist and friend of the empress, Aimé Goujaud dit Bonpland (1773-1858), intendant general of the Malmaison estates after the death of Ventenat. He then followed Joséphine, who was repudiated, to the Château de Navarre in the Eure region, where he enriched the gardens. Illustrated with a superb suite of 44 plates (out of 64) finely engraved, printed in colors and sometimes slightly enhanced, of which 35 after Redouté and 9 after Pancrace Bessa, engraved by Bouquet, Coutaut or Monsaldi. A good copy in original condition. Cover of the first issue stained and worn on the spine, title labels slightly rubbed with damage to the texts. Spotting. Leaves slightly faded.
