Famous and magnificent edition illustrated with 275 engraved plates after Jean-Baptiste Oudry. With the portrait of Oudry engraved by J. Tardieu, added to some copies. A very fine copy, one of the 100 on large Auvergne paper, perfectly bound in red morocco at the time. The plate of the fable Le singe et le léopard is before the letter. From the library of Léon Rattier (heraldic ex-libris on red leather). An autograph receipt signed by Oudry, for two portraits of the Duc de la Force, "his large portrait [and] his portrait as Apollo" for 180 pounds, dated September 9, 1719, is bound at the head of the first volume.
