VIATCHESLAV CONSTANTINOVITCH, PRINCE DE RUSSIE (1864-1879).
Handwritten document prepared by Drs. N. Ivanovsky, A. Takhentzsky, Botkine and Bittig, made in St. Petersburg, February 15, 1879, 4 ½ page, in-folio, on black-bordered paper, text in French. Bends, as is. Text: "Based on the results of the autopsy, one can represent, as it will follow, the course and the final outcome of the illness of His Imperial Highness Imperial Highness Vyacheslav Constantinowich. The osteophyte found in the cranial cavity still developed during the period of fetal life and was the cause of weak, but continuous irritations of the brain manifested by various symptoms of the nerves such as: convulsive movements, of the muscles of the face and extremities, headaches, distractions during occupations and nervousness during the work of the mind; in childhood, some years ago, under the influence of some accidental causes, this condition was aggravated by a chronic inflammation of the dura mater, in the right part of the frontal region, and produces its thickness and adhesion with the skull. This new complication inevitably affected the regularity of the cerebral circulation, because it is in the sinuses of the dura mater that the venous blood vessels join. All these nervous attacks repeating themselves more often became always stronger, when in the course of the last winter, new symptoms of the nerves such as: headaches, vomiting came to join the previous ones and around January 22 when the disease appeared in the region of the eye and under the influence of some new irritations - the chronic inflammation took a more acute course accompanied by an active congestion; Around February 4, it spread to the pie-mother, a "part" adjacent to the attacked part, and by virtue of the exceptional anatomical construction of the latter, it turned into a suppurative inflammation which soon passed to the cerebral substance, to the part of the front of the brain, where, according to the description in the report, the abscess was formed, the main cause of death. It is difficult to say what contributed to the fact that the old trial in the dura mater became more acute at the last moment, and that the disease spread first to the dura mater and then to the brain substance. The indication on a contusion having taken place in January in the Garden of the Palace of Tauride cannot be satisfactory, since it was very light and was not accompanied by any nervous symptoms, or cerebral access - perhaps had any importance as last impulse given to the brain - already prepares to assume an acute disturbance of the nutrition. The text is signed by: the Prosector of the Imperial Academy of Medicine - Doctor of Medicine N. Ivanovsky; the Prosector of the Imperial Academy of Medicine, Doctor of Medicine A. Doctor of Medicine A. Jakhenelzky; Doctor Botkin - Doctor Bittig". History: This document is the medical conclusion of the autopsy performed after the death of the fourth son of Grand Duke Constantine Constantinovich, who died suddenly of a cerebral inflammation at the age of 16. This autograph was found in the papers of Grand Duchess Xenia Alexandrovna (1875-1960) after her death and kept by her daughter Princess Irina Alexandrovna Youssoupoff (1895-1970), then until today in the descendants of the latter.
