Exceptional panel with crowned eagle with arms, collection of Maréchal Berthier Prince of Wagram, spindles, northern Italy, 2nd half of the 19th century. In bobbin lace of a beautiful finesse of realization, the motifs worked of varied points accompanying with great intelligence the drawing of the lace and illustrating the ingenuity and dexterity of the lacemaker. Mirror decoration with in the center of the panel the imperial eagle with arms, large princely crown above maintained by two angels on either side, mermaids on each side of the wings and at each of the two corners of the bottom, snakes, birds and small quadrupeds complete this decoration. Surrounded by a frieze with a repeated motif of a mermaid with two tails between small animals and a small border with spindles sewn on the perimeter. Light ivory colored cotton.
